Rationing the Blame: Is it my SEO applications or is it Search Engines?

I confess. Before learning about SEO programs and website marketing industry, I was of the opinion that Google was the best thing ever. I Googled everything from people, to visuals, to articles to odd things and indiscriminately trusted the results. Then I learned about SEO software and a new business specializing in site promotion, and my attitudes were never the same. But even before that, having done some introspective reading, I got an inkling that search engines, Google to boot, know far from everything, and share with the users even less than what they know.

My Google escapades soon convinced me that Flikr is a better image data bank, that with the help of Digg I can get interesting current events coverage without having to rummage through Google search findings (rummaging seems more appropriate than Google search), and people search is better managed by Facebook. It seems like when I search for weird things on Google, the results are almost always inaccurate, to put it mildly. Try Googling for SEO software and other SEO related subjects on Google and you are just about ready to surrender your self-control. I mean, tell me, what’s the connection between SEO products and career sites or Web casinos? It happens in my disappointment.

So when news of free link building software and the whole industry revolving around it came into my humble worldview, my doubts about things appearing on the top of Google increased manifold. Do they deserve to be there and whose fault is it, Google or webmasters using SEO apps. The ethical quandary is huge. Do I stop using my SEO keyword ranking tool or do I stop using Google instead? I concluded that I can’t renounce myself from Google just yet. At least not till the worthy competitor enters the game. For now I will keep juggling between Blekko, Google and the above methods to complement the SERP mess that Google is. And, oh,yes, I will keep using my SEO software.

Frankly, SEO products is the reason why guys like me get some visibility on the web. smart as they are, search engine robots are unlikely to find some average dude and index his site highly. In this regard, I remain a steadfast fan of SEO programs and organic search. If it was all about the cash, the Fortune businesses would squish me before I knew it. And there are 1000 companies on the Fortune list! But here is something else that irks me and other backlink checker users, I am confident. There are guys who purchase SEO apps and use them to sell shoeson online education sites and such. What we have is junk that not only lives on the net but is also well indexed by search engines.

What is the user reaction to this? They search for SEO product reviews and will instead find irrelevant search findings. They get disenchanted. So much for the “Internet equality”. Does this indicate that SEO application and service industry is harmful? Probably not.

The unethical users of SEO software have to stop corrupting the Net but it’s like ordering hackers to stop cracking the code. The unfortunate side about it is that black hat SEOs are abusing the chance to be noticeable on the Web that is available to the random dude like myself. For now we just have to be patient with them. We can only wish that Google will put more effort into finding the schemers unethically using SEO products, and if Google doesn’t, the new Google will.
